My name is Boussy (short for Bosaina), and I am the person behind this blog. Aside from my "real" healthy obsessions, I actually have a normal full time job that keeps me busy on most days. I also have 2 awesome boys and a lucky naturally-fit husband who thinks butter and sugar are two ingredients that should be used on EVERYTHING.
A few years ago I joined Weight Watchers and reached goal in 4 months. Since then, I became increasingly obsessed with everything health and nutrition related (hence the name for my blog). While on my journey, I realized two very important things that had to happen if I wanted to lead a healthy lifestyle for good:
1) I had to food prep. Meaning plan and make all my meals and snacks ahead of time
2) I had to change the way I cooked in order to make my meals leaner and more satiating without compromising on taste.
Immediately I noticed how hard it was to juggle work, a family, and a new way of eating and cooking. And in no time, I found myself in need of recipes that are quick, easy and yummy enough that my family wouldn't notice that I am cooking any differently (because there was just no way I was going to make separate meals for me and them! Ain't no body got time for that!!)
So with the encouragement of my family and friends, I decided to put together a blog where I would share all the healthy recipes that I come up with so that others can maybe get inspired and start using some of the tricks (both food and non-food related) that I post to help them get on the path to great health. You'll see all my recipes are healthy, diet and Weight Watchers friendly, as well as gluten-free, dairy free and mostly sugar free. And since I'm big on flavors, I made sure to share recipes that are big on flavors, texture and have great health benefits.
On here, you'll find all my readings, teachings, experiences and acquired knowledge in one spot. I wanted to share everything with the world because ultimately, I would love it if my blog touches others in ways that would inspire them to turn their life around the way I turned mine: from young, overweight, & naive, to young, fit, and smart (and a bit obsessed). I couldn't be prouder!!
As I pushed through the frosted doors, the smell of chlorine and the sound of loud giggles dominated my senses. I saw a young lady walking around the pool, as if to monitor those already in the pool. To my right, I noticed a large group of ladies all dressed up in mermaid tales following the instructions of another mermaid (who seemed to be the teacher), doing all kinds of beautiful aquatic moves, tilting and wiggling their mermaid tales all over the pool. I was mesmerised.
This particular recipe is not only absolutely delicious, but it is also very high in protein (I hear the word "satiating" calling...), low in points and incredibly easy to make. I urge EVERYONE to make this one recipe a part of their weekly food prep. It is really worth it!
Rice cakes can make fantastic healthy snacks. They are both low in calories & points, and come in a variety of flavors so you never feel bored. My favorites are popcorn flavor and plain. I like the popcorn flavored ones when I feel like having a salty snack late in the evening or while watching my favorite series on Netflix. The unflavored ones are great to dress up. Those I have when I can indulge in something healthy and filling at the same time.
Oh-my oh-my...what a treat this recipe is! Not sure about you, but I just love Mexican food, and aside from a great guacamole, my favorite thing to have are tacos! But I once calculated how many calories a regular homemade chicken taco has, and it turns out it is about 300 calories per taco, or 7 Weight Watchers SmartPoints. Not too bad I guess if you can actually just have ONE! But I love these guys so much, there’s no way I’m going to be able to make them and just stick to one serving. Or two. Or three. I need a minimum of 4!! And there goes my daily caloric/ SmartPoint allowance!!
Most people don't really have a hard time drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. Take my husband for instance...the guy downs 4 Liters of water/ day. That's an equivalent of 16 cups of water! I mean you would practically have to be a FISH to drink that much water!! Not me, thank you very much. Though I may be a mermaid at heart, I am by no means a sea creature.
Guys, I came up with the MOST amazing idea for a quick and healthy breakfast on the go ever! This wonderful Breakfast Casserole is both delicious and nutritious. It is also low in fat, high in protein and super filling!
Book Review: In Thinner This Year, the authors seem to target an audience that are mainly over 40. I wish I had known that before I read it (can you sense the enthusiasm in my voice/writing?). OK, enough of that. It was a good and informative read, but quite honestly it is not one of my favorite weight loss books. The narrative takes place between two authors ( 2 authors with two different writing styles, which can be confusing at times) and though there's lots of humor in the story telling aspect of it, the authors don't seem to take into account the "human" aspect of dieting, and the fact that everyone falls off the wagon sometimes and that this is completely "normal". In fact, the authors' no nonsense approach to dieting and exercise in this book is exactly what makes it unappealing to me. They seem to have forgotten that though everyone already knows that eating healthy and working out on a daily basis will ultimately leads to weight-loss, IT IS JUST NOT THAT EASY!
It turns out that safflower oil is very good for those of us trying to lose weight (or keep the weight off), as the linoleic acid found in safflower oil allows the muscles to burn abdominal fat for energy. There are tons of studies out there about the benefits of safflower oil, but for our purpose here all we need to know is that it can help in our endeavor to lose the weight (yesss!).
All kidding aside though, “Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle” is a great book that deals with all aspects of diet, nutrition, exercise and the combination and interaction of all these aspects together. It also goes into detail covering different ways one can deal with the common roadblocks and emotional eating habits that dieters often subject themselves to when trying to lose weight.
I simply love this drink...I can have this anytime of the day be it on an empty stomach or before bedtime to calm a growling stomach. I was told it is great for detoxing, but you'd have to be following a detox regimen for this to work as part of the detox process. For me, I see it as a healthy drink that is both refreshing and delicious!
