Fat Blasting Salad Dressing

One of my favorite and most delicious salad dressings I've even made, is one that also does wonders to our waistline! I had originally seen this recipe in For Women First, an American magazine, but I had adjusted it a bit to make it healthier and more weight-loss friendly. 

You see, it turns out that safflower oil is very good for those of us trying to lose weight (or keep the weight off), as the linoleic acid found in safflower oil allows the muscles to burn abdominal fat for energy. There are tons of studies out there about the benefits of safflower oil, but for our purpose here all we need to know is that it can help in our endeavor to lose the weight (yesss!).

In addition to safflower oil, this dressing also has a little of turmeric. Not sure if you know this but turmeric is one of my favorite spices as it is almost flavorless, yet its beautiful bright yellow color adds a great deal of benefits to our meals. In fact, turmeric is a powerful anti inflammatory agent and is a powerful antioxidant. This spice helps ward off infections and other ailments (more info here) and is especially potent when it is mixed in with a dash of black pepper (which makes the turmeric 10X more potent).   I've also added a bit of Himalayan pink salt to the recipe. This can be omitted completely or replaced by regular table salt if you wish. My choice is Himalayan pink salt because of it's health benefits since it is a source of potassium, magnesium and calcium. In fact, it is these minerals that give the salt its pink hue and its subtle flavor.

But all that aside, below you'll find the recipe for an incredibly healthy and delicious salad dressing that you can use on virtually any kind of salad, from mixed greens, to mixed beans, and even on a couscous salad if you wish!

Ingredients

  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp pink Himalayan salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup safflower oil
  • 1 TBS apple cider vinegar

Method

  1. Place all ingredients in a jar that has a tight-fitting lid
  2. Mix well with a spoon
  3. Close the jar tightly and shake until homogeneous
  4. Use 1 - 2 tsp at a time with your favorite salad
